توصف على نطاق واسع بأنها من أقدم الكنائس القائمة في العالم، وتوضع عادة في المرتبة الرابعة أو الخامسة. بدأت مغارة في سقفها فتحة يُدلّى منها الطعام إلى المصابين بالبرص. ثم بُنيت فوقها كنيسة في القرن الرابع ولم ينقطع استعمالها منذ ذلك الحين. وفي قرية برقين اليوم بضع عشرات من العائلات المسيحية. اقرع الجرس عند البوابة الخضراء فيأتي أحدهم بالمفتاح كما يفعلون منذ أجيال.
Widely described as among the oldest churches still standing anywhere — usually placed fourth or fifth in the world. It began as a cave with a hole in its roof, where people with leprosy were lowered food. A church was built over it in the fourth century and it has been in use ever since. The village of Burqin has perhaps a few dozen Christian families left. Ring the bell at the green gate and someone will come with the key, as they have for generations.
تسمى أيضاً كنيسة القديس جاورجيوس، لكن الأهالي يقولون كنيسة المقعد، نسبة إلى الحفرة تحتها حيث يقول التقليد إن عشرة برص كانوا يُحتجزون.
Also called the Church of Saint George, but locals say Kanisat al-Maqad — the church of the pit — after the cave beneath it where, tradition holds, ten lepers were kept.
